Meet the Maker – Shaggy Sheep and Moody Cow

Find out more about one of our newest additions to the Craft Kiln in our Meet the Maker Interview with Shaggy Sheep and Moody Cow…

Day 1) You

Q) Can you tell us a little bit about who you are and what you make?

A) I’m Debs and I gave up my full time job as a Horticulture tutor to run my own business. I originally started my own floristry business but later started to upcycle furniture as I had completed an upholstery course at college. I then moved on to making cushions and the free motion embroidery came from there. I work from home so that I can be with my two dogs and I sell my items in shops around Cornwall or at craft fairs.

Day 2) Your work

Q) Can you tell us about your product range – what do you sell at The Craft Kiln?

A) I mainly make lots of cushions but I also make bunting, glasses cases, keyrings, wreaths, tea cosies and bookmarks.

Day 3) Your process

Q) How do you create your work and what materials are involved?

A) I use a method called raw edge applique and free motion embroidery. Where I can I use recycled materials and try not to waste anything. the smaller items I make are made from the left over fabrics from my cushions and chairs. I am currently working in my craft room but will soon be having a garden room built just for my work (mainly so that it doesn’t take over the whole house!)

Day 4) ‘Your inspiration’

Q) What inspires your work?

A) My work is inspired by nature. I love my garden and the wildlife it brings in. Living on Bodmin Moor I get to see lots of stunning countryside but I also love the Cornish coast.

Day 5 is all about ‘your favourite’

Q) What’s your favourite piece?

A) My favourite thing to do is to upcycle a chair, to give it new life and make it a statement piece.
